K2 Young Adult Development Program

Our K2 Young Adult Program is designed to address 6 competencies to help our patients fully integrate from adolescence to adulthood.

Preparing Young Adults for the Rigors of Life

We support young adults ages 18-28 years old who struggle with finding purpose and motivation. They often lack the necessary competencies for independence and autonomy in the important transition from adolescence to healthy young adult life. Our young adults commonly experience significant deficits related to psychiatric symptom management, executive functioning, healthy decision making, technology addiction, sobriety, vocational or college readiness and healthy relationship development.

We're here to help! Get started by completing our initial qualification form.

The Challenge

Despite their challenges, the young adults we help are often quite bright, and in many ways seem capable of independence. However, their loved ones often see that, behind the scenes, there's still a lot of work to be done.

For these young adults, the typical "clean break" model of moving out or going away to college can be too much to manage all at once.

Our Solution

Our comprehensive outpatient treatment model provides a unique level of whole-life support. We thoughtfully prepare young people to confidently transition into young adulthood safely, with friendship, and the real-life practical skills for personal achievement.

As our young adults make progress, we incrementally and intentionally extend more independence. Rather than pushing them out of the nest, we teach them to fly.

JOURNEY TO INDEPENDENCE

6 Core Competencies to Help Young Adults Live, Learn, and Thrive

Self-care & Emotional Wellness

Self-care and emotional wellness requires young people to independently manage medications or doctors’ appointments, maintain a schedule which includes a daily hygiene practice, and consistently use adaptive coping skills in the face of adversity.

Employment & Education

K2 Young Adult Program provides assistance with both hard and soft skills such as resume development, job readiness, career exploration, steps toward achieving educational and vocational goals, employee/employer communication, filling out applications, interviewing and sustaining engagement in school or work environments.

Life Skills for Independence

Living independently requires planning, banking, budgeting, meal planning, scheduling, learning public transportation, and paying bills. These are examples of crucial skills necessary to launch out of the family home. Our staff closely partner with each young person to navigate real life situations as they become competent problem-solvers and learn to integrate necessary skills to manage the daily responsibilities of independence.

Supported Independent Living

Finding and sustaining independent living options can be overwhelming. Support around housing includes understanding apartment/landlord contracts, home safety and cleanliness, healthy boundaries with friends, and managing new home responsibilities. Sequencing this process with the help of our staff helps ensure a safe and manageable environment is secured for our young adults.

Community & Friendships

Young people who "fail to launch" often experience social anxiety, isolation, technology addiction, depression, poor self-confidence and lack a peer community. Developing or sustaining friendships can be difficult without opportunities to meet others, or without having support to move through significant anxiety or fear. Through daily groups and milieu programming, our staff provide safe and facilitated opportunities for socializing, fun, volunteering, and urban/wilderness adventure.

Fitness & Nutrition

Transitioning from a family home environment requires structure and encouragement around healthy nutrition and exercise.  This includes initiative and awareness for meal planning, creating exercise routines, as well as time outdoors, and attention and accountability to proper sleep patterns. K2 provides individual and group programing that creates awareness while providing opportunities for group cooking, outdoor adventure, and wilderness therapy.
